What does it really mean to be one?

In this message from our Summer Mixtape Sermon Series, we explore U2’s iconic song One and the surprising story behind it. A song born out of conflict and division became a song that helped hold a band together.

That story offers a powerful picture of the church.

Paul reminds us that we are one body with many members. Unity does not mean uniformity. We don't have to think alike, worship alike, or see everything the same way to belong to one another.

Instead, we are called to listen, forgive, make room, and carry one another's burdens.

“We get to carry each other.”

This sermon invites us to ask:

Who needs to be carried today?
Where do I need to let someone carry me?
What does it look like to disagree and still belong to one another?
How can we become a church that shows up when someone is hurting and celebrates when someone rejoices?

Our Christian life is not a solo act. We belong to one another as the body of Christ, with different gifts, different stories, and one calling to love.

One body. Many members.
One church. Many stories.
One Christ. One song.

In the story of the road to Emmaus, Jesus meets two disciples in the middle of their disappointment and uncertainty. He doesn’t simply take them away from the road, they discover that God is with them on the journey.

The Christian life is not a solo expedition. It is a pilgrimage we take together.

God calls us to go beyond places of comfort and safety—to welcome the stranger, love our neighbors, care for the vulnerable, seek justice, make peace, and carry hope into places where hope is needed.

Oh, the places we’ll go. And we don’t have to walk alone.

What does a furry orange creature who "speaks for the trees" have to do with the Gospel of John?

In this sermon, we explore Dr. Seuss's The Lorax — a story about loss, greed, and what happens when something beautiful disappears so slowly that no one notices until it's gone.

From the Once-ler's reasonable-sounding choices that add up to destruction, to Jesus's words in John 15 ("I am the vine, you are the branches"), this message asks: Who speaks for the voiceless in our world today? And what does it look like for the Church to plant seeds of hope rather than chase profit without purpose?

The Lorax leaves us with one word — unless. Scripture leaves us with the same word. Unless we remain connected to Christ, unless we care, unless we plant one seed... nothing changes.
